Sundance Sweeping, Phoenix AZ – Next-Level Team-Building
From home plate to the helm of a thriving company specializing in heavy equipment operation, Brandon Dixon has been on a unique professional journey. At just 34 years of age, he is a former pro baseball player with an impressive record and the current owner of a successful metro Phoenix service organization with a large fleet. He is dominating in growth-by-acquisition among entrepreneurs across the southwest US diversified property services market.
On March 1, 2025, Dixon bought Sundance Sweeping, located in Gilbert, AZ, a Phoenix metro municipality. It is his second company, after flipping his San Diego business, Pacific Sweep. He had purchased Pacific Sweep a few years earlier (May 2023), as a failing business, and quickly transformed the nonvolume commercial services company into a strong local competitor he rebranded as Cleaner Streets, LLC.
He grew the business enough to position it for resale at a substantial profit and then sold it in early March 2026 (just 3 weeks before this interview). He has turned over the profits from the sale of the San Diego company into the Phoenix operation he acquired last year. Brandon reviews his entrepreneurial success to date, starting with the progress of his new venture in Arizona. And he talks about the past few years of personal transition and professional development from sports team player to business team leader:
The first 6 months were a little rocky, as they typically are while you’re getting a business running like you want it to work. We spent those months overcoming challenges and improving our systems. The last 6 months have been much smoother.
Living in the Valley of the Sun
I’m from an area just north of San Diego. When I went to the U of A, I became very familiar with Tucson. In 2013, I started playing pro ball, and I was always around Phoenix for spring training. I like Phoenix very much, so I bought a house in 2013, and my family and I settled here. We’ve enjoyed being part of the community here ever since.
In our May 2024 NAS interview with Brandon, following his purchase of Cleaner Streets in San Diego, he recounted the whirlwind changes of that period. He had been playing for the San Diego Padres till mid-October of the previous year (2023). He was looking toward upcoming retirement from baseball and had begun looking at business ideas. A business partner of his told him about the thriving powersweeping industry and he said, “It sounded ideal for me.
At the time of that interview, just a year later, he reflected on the progress of his new endeavor. He had expanded services and undertaken full-scope rebranding, and he estimated at that one-year mark, “We have produced very well since we bought the company in November.”
I grew up in southern coastal California and am used to the beach weather there. Summers are hot here in Phoenix, but there is something about the climate to manage wherever people live. When it came down to whether we should move back to California or make our home here permanently, we were ready to set down roots here. We are involved in the community and love our lives here.
The Future of Sundance – Dixon Family Business
The plan is to grow locally, just continue to expand in the Phoenix and broader Maricopa County market. After running a business out of state, I know that there are a lot of headaches in doing that unless you have a layer of management that can function autonomously. We were too small there to have that and continue operating in California while living in Arizona. Alternatively, the amount of growth and opportunity here in Phoenix will continue to expand throughout this area.
Our objectives are to get better for our customers and improve the quality of service we deliver and to build relationships. We’ll have to evaluate whether expansion of our line of services or our service area will be right for us. Currently, we mostly provide service for a lot of parking lots, malls, shopping centers, grocery stores, etc. A significant amount of our business is also serving HOAs and construction sites, and we are continuing to grow in both of those kinds of sweeping.
We asked Brandon about the potential development of the company as a family business down the road: I have a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old. I would love to make it a family-oriented business and get them involved as they grow. I think it’s a good experience for kids being in a business environment — seeing the hard work, all the labor that goes into it. So, yes, I do plan to get them involved.
Sundance Sweeping Fleet
We currently keep up to about 15 sweeper trucks with as many as a dozen or so operating daily, and we usually have several backup units on standby. We have a mix of brands, including Tymco® 435s, Tymco 210s, an ODRA Challenger, and a couple of smaller parking lot sweepers like scavenger-style units. We’ve modified those to work well for our customers.
I don’t have a lot of experience with the brands. At this point, for preferences, I’m biased toward Tymco because most of my experience has been with them. Both powersweeping companies I’ve bought have had Tymcos. So, that is what I’ve gotten familiar with. I like their reliability. They build a very good product. That’s not to say we haven’t had any maintenance problems, but most things are fairly easy to replace when we have issues.
Their general performance is great when things are working smoothly. They are really strong machines. They can handle some pretty heavy work and do an amazing job, and we’ve really enjoyed working with their people.
Sundance Sweeping Staff
We have about 21 employees or so at this time, including several in the office, and a mechanic. Mostly the admins do administrative work, like HR, payroll, invoicing, dispatching, and other tasks. We have a couple of night supervisors and a night operations manager who oversees the supervisors. I’m the one primarily doing sales. One of our senior drivers has a kind of flex role, in which he does some outreach for sales.
There’s been a predictable amount of turnover just from new management changing the standards of the company. Of course, turnover on the night crew tends to be a little higher. People are not necessarily always looking for a career in those roles. Fortunately, all but one of the management people who built the company have stayed, and the one who left was actually planning to move out of state before the buyout.
Sundance Culture – The Power of Team-Building
Coming from a sports background, it’s a habit for me to cultivate a team atmosphere. I can’t really get away from that instinct to build that teamwork mentality into an organization. Clearly outlining the roles and expectations for individuals is not always easy, but I have found that people really respect that.
People want to do a good job in their line of work. You have to give them the tools and training to do that. I want to be as performance-driven as I can. Every night and day, I want the same quality of performance to be given to our customers, regardless of which driver is servicing the account.
It’s fair to say that Brandon Dixon’s employees are in an exceptional environment for developing a winning team culture. For some perspective, as NAS reported in the May 2024 article about his career move, the Detroit Tigers had recruited him in 2018, and he delivered outstanding performance that coming year with the ball club (2019).
Per the earlier NAS reporting, “He hit .248/.290/.435 in 420 at-bats and led the team with 15 home runs that season. Through his decade in the major league, Dixon hit .224/.266/.397, with 22 home runs and 32 doubles. At the Triple-A level, in 1100 at-bats, he achieved an impressive record of .286/.349/.518.” And in the latter years of his career, he had ultimately realized his dream of playing with his home team, the Padres.
Hence, it’s easy enough to trace the experiential path of this inspiring leader’s own development of a teamwork-above-all orientation, as well as his powerful understanding of the bottom-line value of consistency. Both are principles that challenge so many leaders to internalize and effectively instill in their teams.
In his publicized retirement from major league baseball, Brandon expressed deep gratitude for the many great relationships and all the strong support he had received throughout his years in the league. His demeanor during our opportunities to speak with him has likewise reflected that attitude of humility and appreciation for peer business owners in the industry who generously offered their guidance during his startup.

Powersweeping Business Marketing in the Valley
The website is completely new. It’s kind of the same thing as I did in the California business. The things that worked well there, we’ve been doing here. For marketing, our current customer is our focus. But the website has been really good in getting leads. It took about six or seven months to see improvement in the number of leads it was generating. By around August or so, the lead volume had increased to a good flow on average.
Everything is fully branded. We have logos on the trucks, and the field employees wear uniforms. In addition to the office team’s regular administrative responsibilities, they also do a little bit of our customer satisfaction management, like sending out proof of work so that customers know the quality of the service they’re getting.
NAS research found that Sundance Sweeping has a very strong web presence. The business’s promotional branding online is abundant, consuming multiple Google SERPs. The thrust of the brand message is team dedication, trust, and top-quality results, emphasizing the Sundance team’s reliable professional maintenance of commercial properties throughout Phoenix, Maricopa County, and greater east central Arizona.

Advice for New US Market Entrants from Brandon Dixon, Owner, Sundance Sweeping, Phoenix AZ
It’s not always gonna be pretty. There are going to be a lot of headaches and hard days. But if you work your plan for your company, good things happen. For anyone who’s interested in that, I’m happy to talk.
In our 2024 meeting with Brandon, he noted, “I’ve reached out to others in this industry who’ve been around. I’ve been asking a lot of questions, and so many people have been very gracious with their time to help me learn. It’s been fun to meet them and learn the business.” In turn, today, in 2026, he continues to provide guidance to others.
If anyone wants to reach out, I’m on LinkedIn and X (Twitter), and I’m accessible through our website. I’m helping the guy who bought our business in California right now. I’m kind of in a consulting relationship with the new owners to help them during this transition phase.
On Sundance and Its Leadership
The Sundance Sweeping business owner has team-building in his blood. One might vaguely imagine such an athlete hyping up the group with locker-room-style pep talks. But Brandon Dixon’s bearing exudes corporate sophistication tempered with a down-to-earth quality. It translates as the blend of charisma and genuine humility that characterizes the most engaging and effective leaders we meet throughout the field.
Add the rapid growth he achieved in San Diego, quickly positioning the company he bought for acquisition and flipping it for a healthy profit in what may be record time. Altogether, it’s fair to say that Brandon Dixon has developed a stellar record of accomplishments in the industry by this point, and it appears that the Sundance Sweeping company, under his direction, is on track for continued steady success over the long term in the Phoenix Valley.
