The dust suppression is essential to street sweepers, especially to the regenerative air series to control the excessive dust been created.
As the winter months are approaching rapidly, freezing temperatures are expected.
Winterizing your sweeper will help keep the system in top operating condition during the winter months as well as extending its length of service. So, if the dust suppression system is not operated during freezing temperatures it should be drained while the sweeper is stored. If the dust suppression system will be operated during freezing temperatures the system should be winterized to prevent component damage from freezing up.
Draining the system:
1. Unscrew the bottom of the ‘Y’ strainer housing or open the drain valve to drain the water from the reservoir(s).
2. After the water flow stops, reassemble the ‘Y’ strainer housing and close the drain valve.
3. Turn on all cab console control panel switches controlling water manifold solenoids and let the water run out of the system.
Winterizing the system:
1. Following the antifreeze manufacturer’s instructions,
add environmentally safe antifreeze to the water by
pouring it through the air-gap opening in the top of the
reservoir.
2. Start the auxiliary engine.
3. Turn on the water pump drive motor
4. Turn on all cab console control panel switches
controlling water manifold solenoids.
5. Leave switches on until the antifreeze/water mixture
flows from the spray nozzles.
6. Turn off all cab console control panel switches
controlling water manifold solenoids.
7. Turn off the auxiliary engine.
**It is important to note that if the sweeper is stored outside for long period during freezing temperatures the drain process will not be sufficient. Even though the water is drained as noted the water pump(s) will not drain. In this situation it will be necessary to winterize the system or drain the water completely and winterizing the pump(s). To winterize the pump(s) put the water supply line in a jug of environmentally safe antifreeze and force the pump(s) to run allowing fluid to go through.
